Welcome everyone. Once again it is Spring/Summer. We have been waiting for this for what seems like forever. Finally the lavender is blooming and begining to look like a purple haze in the field. Although we have had such a wet Spring and now well into summer, the lavender seems to have survived just fine. I can't stress enough the importance of good drainage when you first plan on planting lavender. Incorporate sand, or fine stone to give the soil that drainage lavender needs to survive. Also, look at the lay of the land where you plan on planting, particurarly after a heavy rain and see if water lodges in the spot you have chosen to plant. If it does, I would recommend finding another spot.
For those of you who come to see us at the market and get advice that way, it is such a pleasure to meet all of you, and all of your good wishes are so much appreciated. For those of you who can not come to a market, please feel free to e-mail me with whatever lavender questions you have on your mind and I will be glad to answer those questions. I have updated our market schedule for your convenience under "contact us" tab.
This year I have also added some food items to our product line at the farmer's markets. You can now sample home baked culinary lavender items like lavender scones, lavender French bread sticks, cheese and lavender mini breads, lavender biscotti and lavender jelly. I am delighted to hear from so many of my customers that they are now cooking with culinary lavender and enjoying the experience. So come visit us at a farmer's market and see what else the market has to offer.
